Senior Social and Environmental Scientists or Engineers
- Malanda, North Queensland, Australia
- Full-time or Part-time
SSG is seeking senior environmental and social scientists and engineers to grow our global networks and international project delivery. This is the perfect job for exceptional scientists and engineers with international experience and strong implementation skills in transformative developments involving mining, oil and gas, renewable energy, linear infrastructure, agriculture and/or eco-tourism projects. The ideal candidate is comfortable working across disciplines with sound report writing, excellent networking and project management skills who loves rolling up their sleeves and getting involved. You will help shape and drive major projects in collaboration with our teams of key partners, you'll bring order and focus leading by example with calm confidence while leaving room for flexibility and innovation. You'll bring infectious energy to those around you, you'll be a mentor, implementer, influencer, negotiator and effective communicator rolled into one.
We're specifically looking for scientists and engineers with passion, experience and language skills in the tropical regions of Northern Australia, Asia, Pacific and/or Latin America.
First and foremost, you love to manage cross-discipline projects in remote locations and championing delivery success throughout your team. You can effectively and collaboratively identify new opportunities for the company and synchronise project interdependencies across multiple teams and navigate risks and change along the way. You are able to act as a coach/mentor for other team members both within and outside the company on relevant technical issues and promote, define, refine and enforce innovative processes that fit our agile culture and values. Your positive energy inspires those around you to consistently achieve goals.
Having earned your Social, Science, Engineering or a related technical degree is essential with postgraduate qualifications being especially favoured. You’d also be a great fit if you have 5 - 10 years of project experience in remote tropical locations, a history of working with challenging, complex situations and project management best practices. You are a strategic thinker (but also like getting into the details) with great creative and innovative problem-solving skills. And you know that saying “there is no ‘I’ in team”? It’s real, and alive and well at SSG where our tagline “managing complexity for success” can only be achieved by a high-functioning, supportive team environment.
The home base for this role is the newly constructed green-build office in the vibrant rural town of Malanda on the stunning Atherton Tablelands in North Queensland. The office environment is open, naturally lit and temperature controlled, highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer a great package: ample time off to relax and recharge, five paid training days a year to continue to build your skills and networks, plenty of snacks and drinks to keep you motivated, ergonomic workstations and the ability to become a company share-holder after one year. Our innovative remuneration package is flexible, family-friendly package.
Our success is defined by strong connection to our clients, along every step of the project we empathize with their concerns and are passionate about creating solutions to understand and solve their problems taking sustainable development principles into account. Collaboration and empathy in complex situations is the key to our success, whether it is working with the start-up, operational or closure aspects of projects. From detailed technical problems to long term strategic issues, we provide environmental, social and engineering solutions—and we love making a difference every step of the way. Our strong team environment provides ongoing internal support to all members enabling continuous personal growth and opportunities for professional development.
