Our Services

Sustainable Solutions provide the following services:

ESIA Project Management
We provide project schedule, time management, coordination, facilitation and communication services to ensure that your Environmental & Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) project objectives scope and deadlines are met. We have the skills to communicate the project to all levels of your organization and the practical experience to ensure that performance indicators and targets are met.

Stakeholder Engagement
The participation and support of key organizations and groups from the onset is essential to the long term success of a project. Sustainable Solutions staff are able to identify the critical stakeholders to be involved in your project and develop strategies to engage them appropriately in the process. We also have the skills to engage stakeholders who have been alienated by a project and incorporate their concerns and needs into the project. We are able to advise on appropriate mechanisms for consultation and negotiation; and we are experienced facilitators.

Community Development
Sustainable Solutions staff have skills in a broad range of agricultural, horticultural, animal husbandry, rehabilitation, conservation and eco-tourism projects in northern Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and Laos. We have worked closely with government agencies and Indigenous communities to ensure the implementation and long-term success of these projects. This has required an appreciation and knowledge of economic, cultural and environmental aspects to enable sustainability.

Mine Closure Planning
Assessing your closure liabilities at the onset of a project can reduce costs, environmental damage and social disruption in the future. We have the skills to incorporate mine closure planning into your project and the experience to implement integrated closure plans. We have worked on technically and socially challenging closure projects which required creative solutions and extensive stakeholder involvement. We incorporate post-closure land use requirements with management strategies and performance criteria for acid producing waste, mine voids, rehabilitated areas and sustainable community development programmes. We will undertake a cost effective gap analysis of environmental and social issues concerning closure projects and provide an action plan for site guidance and implementation.

Environmental Training
The key to successful environmental management of a project is the level of awareness and skills of the implementing team. We have designed and provided training for a range of environmental programmes tailored to specific client's needs and information. We are qualified trainers and have trained entire sites as well as provided "train the trainer" courses for local staff to take over the implementation of specific programmes or plans. The training programmes that we can provide include:
- General environmental inductions
- Regulatory requirements
- Impact assessment and analysis
- Rehabilitation planning
- Consultation in developing communities
- Closure planning

Environmental and Social Review
Sustainable Solutions staff have conducted audits in northern Australia, PNG, Laos and Indonesia to identify both environmental and social issues. These audits have identified critical issues of technical and reputational concern. We have led reviews for highly controversial projects and provided unbiased reports and public presentations on the results. We have scoped reviews in co-operation with other critical stakeholders and developed strategies to transparently engage community members and government officers. This has required clear and plain language explanations of technical issues and agreed strategies to manage reputational issues.
